I was able ta move about freely thanks to ya drawin’ the enemy’s attention with those exaggerated gestures of yers. I snuck into the helicopter and fiddled with it so it can’t fly no more.

I also disabled a~ll of the bombs that were set up in there. My folks really drilled into me information about how ta disarm explosives while I was growin’ up, ya see.

Well then, what’s yer next move? I’ll refer ta ya as GFK II. Ya have lost all yer advantages against us, and yer left with no means of escapin’.

Plus. Madara-han firmly secured J, who was yer biggest trump card against us.

No, more like we had ta fabricate this exact situation in order ta be able ta deal with ya and save J at the same time.

We pretended ta follow all of yer orders while waitin’ patiently fer this moment.

“Hahaha! Sorry, sorry, seems I got my legs all twisted up with yours and caused you to fall over, GFK II! It’s the kind of accident that happens every once in a while on an idol stage!”

“When you get too absorbed in dancing, you sometimes end up bumping into someone who happened to be nearby!”

“What an unbelievably unfortunate accident that the momentum from your fall was enough to make you tumble straight off this rooftop-”

Kohaku: “Stay calm! I’ll save ya right now, GFK II! Here ya go, grab onto this long power cord!”

Madara: “Ooops, another unfortunate accident! The power cord got tangled up in your legs and now you’re hanging from it in the air!”

Kohaku: “Don’t ya move even an inch now, GFK II! If the cord gets untangled, ya’ll be fallin’ headfirst straight into the ground! Ya’ll become as flat as a pancake!”

Madara: “We’ll save you right away! Alright, don’t move, don’t move! Or maybe you don’t want our help?”

Kohaku: “Hey, hey! Ya should cry ‘n beg for our help!”

Madara: “Ah, how I feel for him! But rest assured, even if you get so scared that you piss your pants, your honor will remain intact!”

Kohaku: “This footage got way too shockin’ all of a sudden fer us to broadcast it on national television, after all!”

“Even if this show is an insane parentin’ program that doesn’t give a shit about broadcastin’ ethics!”

Madara: “This accident will become buried in darkness, never to be seen by the innocent public!”

Kohaku: “So don’t worry and go ahead and shout! Ya should be relieved that we’re such upstandin’ idols! We always strive ta give the viewers the best experience possible, ya see!”

“This kind of awful accident-”

Madara: “This kind of unbearable tragedy!”

Kohaku: “This shockingly terrifying video is not somethin’ we’d ever want the public ta experience!”

Madara: “However! You can’t stop people from gossiping! I’m sure that word of the horrors you’re experiencing right now will suddenly spread throughout the underworld that you are a part of!”

“Secretly, but surely, from one villain to the next!”

“Enough so that everyone who hears about it will want to avoid meeting with the same misfortune as this episode’s guest - GFK II - did!”

Kohaku: “Enough that they’ll all know better than ta try and imitate what GFK II did!”

Madara: “Over and over! Let’s keep this horror show that only we know about going a little longer!”

Kohaku: “Over and over and over again! We’ll keep at it until ya never want ta do anythin’ this stupid ever again!”

“If ya get it, give us yer reply! Ya poor, unfortunate victim who was unlucky enough ta get caught in this unforeseeable accident!”

Madara: “No one even invited you to take part in our show! Your first mistake was that you forced your way into appearing on this fun and peaceful parenting program!”

Kohaku: “♪~♪~♪”

Madara: “~...♪”

tsukasa

Tsukasa: Wow.

Th, things are taking a turn for the outrageous over there… What is this, some scenery out of hell?

Right, yes. You are watching the video on your end as well, right, Saegusa-senpai? It seems like Double Face splendidly managed to punish the bad guy.

Once this fact spreads, no one should dare to try and imitate the crimes this case’s culprit - GFK II - committed.

Of course, when this episode is broadcast, it will be edited to remove the scary parts, and it will be turned into a peaceful episode for the public to enjoy.

No. Actually, this entire episode will likely never be broadcast.

However. To be suspended from the roof of a luxury hotel and to have his life threatened like this…

The horror this criminal is experiencing will become known to the underworld through rumors going from mouth to mouth, darkness to darkness. And thus, anyone planning similar crimes will have to rethink their plans.

Having said that. Any more than this would be going too far, so I will hurry over to the scene to restrain them.

Even if the enemy is a horrible criminal, and even if we are doing this to save a child-

Any further punishment will lead to resentment festering, creating further violence and tragedy.

(Oukawa. Do you really understand this fact?)

(Of course, I intend to continue being your ally, no matter how much blood you are stained by.)

(Karmic retribution, cause and effect. For villains who would hurt others, a suitable punishment is surely waiting. Sinful humans will go to hell, and be impaled on piles of needles.)

(I, and your fellow members of the Oukawa family, did not wish your you to go down that path, however.)

…Nn?

Ah, yes. I’m sorry, I’m still watching the footage coming in from the scene.

As I’m watching it, I can’t help but feel like there is something wrong, though I can’t explain what-

…!? This is! Did you notice, Saegusa-senpai!?

Yes! I thought something was strange, and now I notice J-san has been nowhere to see for a while! Double Face are too caught up in their punishment against GFK II to notice!

I have a bad feeling about this! I have to hurry on over to the scene and inform those two about this!

….Eh?

D, did you see that, Saegusa-senpai? My eyes must be deceiving me, surely?

J-san is-

GFK II suddenly jumped up, grabbed ahold of J-san, and jumped off of the roof.

…How? Did something go wrong?

How did things come to this? We were supposed to defeat the villain, save the innocent child from his clutches, and everything was supposed to be over with, right?

That was supposed to be the happy ending for this story, right?

And yet, how? How could such a tragedy…?

I, is this our punishment for doing something so evil as to lynch a man?

N, no matter how much I struggle and work hard.

Will I never be able to save that child, Oukawa, from the depths of hell? Is that what this means?

Please tell me, please reply, Saegusa-senpai.

How, why, did things come to this…?

Tsukasa: -It seems they’ve begun.

I am on standby in the designated room. Yes, I used a fake name to borrow a room in the luxury hotel which stands directly across from the filming site. I am quietly monitoring the situation from here.

Simultaneously, I have utilized my authority as an investor in both the program and Double Face to be allowed to receive live footage of the scene as they are shooting the show.

I have asked to see the footage live before as well, so that request shouldn’t come across as unnatural.

However. If I make my existence known any further, I might end up antagonizing the kidnapper, so I can’t do any more than this.

All I can do is to keep checks on the situation on-site while reporting to you like this, Saegusa-senpai.

Yes. For now, Mikejima-senpai is the only person visible at the scene.

The culprit has designated their request to Double Face, but unfortunately, Double Face has already announced their disbandment.

Since it would be exceedingly unnatural for them to hold a reunion live this soon after disbanding, Mikejima-senpai is acting on his own for now-

Or rather, he apparently insisted on appearing on the show as MaM.

It seems the culprit also wanted to avoid attracting negative attention, so he had to accept that request, although reluctantly.

Of course. Since we ended up forcing a condition onto the culprit, they insisted we also go along with one condition of theirs in return.

Because of that, Mikejima-senpai is currently the only person physically present on the set on the luxury hotel roof, as per the culprit’s request. We ended up paying much more money than expected thanks to that.

Yes. The footage I am receiving is therefore being automatically filmed by a Camera on-site.

This is a highly unusual sight within Idol work. There truly isn’t a single member of Staff on-site currently, not even a Cameraman.

Mikejima-senpai is all on his own in that dangerous place.

At this point in time, it is impossible to say whether this choice, this deal with the culprit, was a point of success or of failure.

Our negotiations also gave us the advantage of Oukawa being able to move freely.

He was able to avoid appearing on the program. In other words, he can avoid exposing himself in front of our enemy.

I’m afraid even I do not know what that child is currently doing, and where he has gone to. There is the possibility that I could be captured by the enemy in search of information on him, after all.

As a precaution, Oukawa is currently hiding his whereabouts from all of us and moving around secretly. Of course, his aim is to rescue J-san from these villains.

The Oukawas, the clan who carried the dark secrets for us Suous, are skilled at such dealings in the dark.

I will give him my seal of approval as the Suou family head.

This Mission will definitely end in success.

…Of course, personally I would like Oukawa, and Mikejima-senpai as well, to avoid undertaking any more dangerous work like this henceforth.

Yes. That is why I’m praying that this job will be the last dirty job they will have to complete.

Those two have fought endlessly in a domain of darkness of the type I cannot even imagine. This might be the time when the experience and the skills they have honed up until now come to fruition.

I would like to think that the reason they had to swim through that sea of blood was so they would be able to save that innocent child - J - today.

Of course. It is not as if all their sins can be forgiven just because they were committed for a noble cause.

It is as Oukawa said himself. They only have themselves to thank for the fact that they are undergoing such hardships currently.

Hindsight is twenty-twenty, of course, but their actions up until now is what brought about this tragedy in the first place.

However. They are now attempting to fix this situation they have caused. They are risking their lives by putting themselves into the most dangerous position.

They have dirtied themselves, but I can sense a little beauty in their actions, their way of life. I myself am also the son of a samurai family whose position was built on top of a mountain of human corpses.

Dirty and clean, clean and dirty… Whether those two, whether Double Face is good or bad is not for me to judge, but rather for the historians of the future.

As for me personally, I cannot reject their every action. Of course, I cannot accept their every action either.

I am no longer capable of holding the sins they have built up while walking through the mud thus far in enmity.

Though it was but for a short time, we lived together under the same roof-

Now that I have come to see behind their facade, I am incapable of dismissing them as simple dirtied villains. I cannot declare them to be filth and turn my eyes away from them.

Double Face, those two have continued to struggle in the grey area between light and darkness, good and evil.

I plan to watch over this last mission of theirs from here.

From this shore, where mud from the swamp they swim in can still reach and stain my body.

madara

Madara: I tried asking my sister for information.

She wasn’t able to provide much valuable information, though. She claims she caught the cold that’s been going around, so she was sent to the same hospital as J for a check-up.

Once she heard that J was in the same hospital, she apparently went by his hospital room to say hello.

She was acquainted with J already, so this far her story checks out.

Once she got to J’s room, she ran into the kidnapper, who forcefully tied her up and left her under the futon.

Tsukasa: That’s some awful timing and luck there.

Madara: Almost suspiciously bad. It’s also puzzling that my sister was sent all the way to that hospital from her rehabilitation center just for a check-up.

Apparently she had left her rehab center because she got permission to come attend a Ra*bits live, since she has become a big fan of theirs lately.

She then caught the cold from the crowd while at that live. And that’s why she came to that hospital, which was close to the live venue, to be examined.

Tsukasa: It makes sense to me. Whatever are you suspicious about, Mikejima-senpai?

Madara: Tsukasa-san doesn’t know how black-hearted my sister can be, after all… She usually only becomes proactive like this when she’s plotting something bad-natured.

Tsukasa: You should try to trust your sister a little more. You are family, no?

Madara: Pointing out that she's related to me is actually just providing another reason to be suspicious of her, you know?

Ibara: So Mikejima-shi is suspicious of his sister, is that so?

Madara: There are no other suspects available. I can’t wrap my head around how the bad guys suddenly showed up out of nowhere when we haven’t heard anything from them ever since the show became popular.

Kohaku: Ain’t that because the bad guys heard I was leavin’ the show and thought they could kidnap J now that the protection surroundin’ him was lighter?

Madara: Our falling out should have eliminated the “anxiety” plaguing the people of the underworld, though.

All the less reason for that faction of people to go out of their way and risk their skins to kidnap J.

Simultaneously, J’s rise in fame meant there was less reason for people not related to the underworld to risk going after him.

We created that show so he would gain fame to increase his safety, after all.

Kohaku: That way, even if someone kidnapped J and brainwashed ‘im ta give them the inheritance, the loads of people who watch the show would notice the unnaturalness of the situation.

The public’s suspicions would lead the authorities ta launch an investigation, and the culprit would likely be destroyed.

That was all part of our plans, after all. I see, when ya consider all of that-

It should be impossible fer there ta be any villains targetin’ J at this timin’.

Of course, there are always idiots who don’t think things through before actin’, but this crime is too well thought out fer the culprit ta be some common idiot.

Tsukasa: Hm. When you put it that way, the case certainly becomes illogical. Too many facts don’t match up, and the culprit’s actions make no sense.

Ibara: That being said, there is also no reason for Mikejima-shi’s sister to want to kidnap J-san.

Kohaku: I agree with ya on that. My eldest sister is skilled at interrogatin’, so I asked her ta help us talk ta Maguro-han just in case.

And based on what my sister said, Maguro-han is innocent. She shouldn’t’ve been able ta lie well enough ta deceive my sister.

kohaku+madara

Madara: Still though. If my sister didn’t do it, then who exactly could have kidnapped J?

Ibara: Well. In cases like this, we have no other course of action available to us except waiting patiently for the kidnapper to contact us.

If the culprit is aiming for J’s inheritance from GFK, then there is no reason for them to contact us, however.

They could just keep J-san hidden somewhere and take their time to brainwash him, after all.

Tsukasa: Wouldn’t brainwashing be pointless now that the public is able to notice if J-san starts acting unnaturally?

Ibara: Indeed. This is just speculation, but it might be that the culprits of this case have managed to find a way to circumvent that problem.

-Oops, excuse me. I have a call on my work phone. You’ll have to forgive me, but even with the situation as it is, I cannot afford to neglect my normal responsibilities.

Kohaku: Ah, it’s fine. There’s nothin’ ya can do ta help right now, so ya should focus on yer job.

Madara: That’s true. It can’t be helped, Ibara-san is a very busy businessman after all.

Ibara: I can feel a certain amount of sarcasm flowing through your words…

I would appreciate it if you all could understand that having J-san kidnapped while under my protection has hurt my pride considerably.

Well, I’ll let it slide. As punishment for being unable to fulfill the duties expected of me in this case, I’ll gracefully allow you to take out your anger at me.

-Ah, yes. Hello. Sorry to keep you waiting.

…Huh?

Is this a joke? Are you serious?

Kohaku: D, did somethin’ happen? They say that misfortune seldom comes alone, after all, did somethin’ more go wrong?

Ibara: -That was the kidnapper on the phone just now.

Kohaku: Aah?

Madara: Wh, what are you saying? Did they call to demand a ransom or something?

Ibara: No. This is honestly entirely baffling.

It seems the kidnapper wants for you, Double Face, to appear on a “certain program”.

Kohaku: Wh, what’s that supposed ta mean… Double Face is supposed ta have announced our disbandment ta the public, so why on earth’s this person callin’ ta ask us ta appear on a show?

And what’s more, the kidnapper’s the one askin’? What does all this mean, really?

Ibara: Please quiet down. I’ll ask for more details.

Ah… I see, I see.

It appears that our current enemy is a much more intelligent criminal than we had expected… I would’ve never guessed they would try something like this.

It would be convenient for us if you, who are affiliated with a different agency, could take on all of the responsibility.

Anzu-san might get angry with you again, if you keep up this self-sacrificing habit of yours.

I prefer to consider the situation from a business-like perspective, however, and I insist on respecting your wishes.

Returning to the problem at hand, I’ll repeat my previous questions. What do you want to do? Do you want to cancel the show? Or would you like to continue?

Madara: …I’m not qualified to make that decision. Or rather, this isn’t something we should decide on our own.

J should decide. The most important thing is what he wants to do.

I’ve kept making mistakes because I never took that into consideration, or even thought about it.

At this point I’ve reflected on my own behavior, and want to do what’s right, this time for sure.

Ibara: …All villains are destined to be defeated by the allies of justice.

Villains can’t reflect on themselves, reform their ideology, and be reborn as an ally of justice.

Madara: -J, how are you feeling?

Hahaha. I bet you’re surprised. I was kicked out of the hospital room earlier because the staff didn’t want me catching your cold, but there are many convenient ways to sneak into places.

Though I guess that also means any villains targeting you would have an equally easy time sneaking in here, so it’s not very good.

It might be better if we moved you to a hospital with a little more security if you’re gonna stay hospitalized. Like the hospital where my sister is receiving treatment, that place is specifically made to treat members of the police force.

…J? What’s wrong, you’re not saying anything.

Are you sleeping? Did they give you the kind of cold medicine that makes you sleepy?

(-No, that’s not it. There’s clearly someone under the futon, but even if J was to pull the futon all the way over his head, this still doesn’t look like J’s body.)

(J is too small and thin for his age, but even considering that this futon looks overly large on him.)

-J!

…!? Eh, why are you here? What’s going on?

Kohaku: Madara-ha~n!

Where’s J? Is he okay? Argh, I don’t even know what ta say, how could somethin’ happen ta J when y’all were together?

Madara: …Kohaku-san.

Kohaku: Wh, what’s wrong? Ya look so pale, is J’s condition really that bad?

Wait, what’s goin’ on in here? That’s yer sister, Maguro-han, ain’t it? Why’s she bound up in the bed like that?

What are the two of ya doin’, really?

Madara: You know, I don’t have the slightest clue myself-

J was supposed to be asleep in that bed, but when I moved the futon my sister was bound up there in his place.

J has disappeared somewhere.

Kohaku: …

ibara

Ibara: -It seems like someone took advantage of the disturbance caused by J-san collapsing.

I was busy contacting everyone involved in the program, and even Mikejima-shi was uncharacteristically obedient and left the hospital when asked to by the doctors.

To rebel against the doctor’s instructions when at the hospital would not only be pointless, but could even be harmful, after all. There was nothing else he could have done.

There was nothing Mikejima-shi could do for J-san while he was sick, so even though he was worried for J-san he had no choice but to leave the hospital room.

However, some scoundrel took advantage of that momentary gap in our security. He colluded with a fake doctor to get inside the hospital room, after which he swiftly kidnapped J and escaped through a back entrance.

In this way, J-san ended up stolen from us.

Tsukasa: Are we pursuing the kidnapper?

Ibara: Of course, I quickly mobilized my private forces and sent them in pursuit.

The kidnapper is a professional. There were almost no traces left in the room after the kidnapping, and the surveillance cameras both inside the hospital and in the nearby areas had been disabled aforehand. Honestly speaking, tracking him will be extremely difficult.

They’ve completely defeated us. The whole case was almost suspiciously well executed.

J-san’s sudden collapse should have been a completely unexpected occurrence for everyone.

And yet. J-san collapsed, was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, was examined and admitted to the hospital, after which he was taken to his room-

All this took place in less than an hour. During this time, the kidnapper managed to prepare and commit a seemingly perfect crime.

Perfectly utilizing the split second during which we were unable to react.

Tsukasa: Does that mean this person noticed J-san’s physical condition worsening beforehand and spent time preparing for the crime?

Ibara: There was no way to foresee this incident, which is exactly what makes me think this case is unnatural.

Though we can’t exclude the possibility that the culprit had prepared countless potential plans and one of them coincidentally happened to work out.

I just cannot help but feel suspicious.

Tsukasa: Suspicious in what way?

Ibara: What I am about to say could be interpreted as defamation, but I can’t help but wonder if the perpetrator behind this crime is-

Kohaku: This is the “correct answer”. There was nothin’ else we could’ve done.

Double Face is a unit built on hurtin’ others. There was never gonna be a happy endin’ where we could all end things with a smile.

We don’t even have the right ta ask fer such an endin’.

Anyone who gets involved with us was doomed ta meet with misfortune.

An’ this time it just happened to be my turn ta be on the losin’ side.

And yet, my wounds hardly make up fer the chaos we caused by removin’ GFK, erasin’ that one person an’ distortin’ so many lives.

This level o’ pain doesn’t even qualify as karma.

I’m just feelin’ a little lonely after bein’ separated from that kid I came to like just a little.

Not a single drop of blood has been shed. From GFK’s point of view, my pain probably isn’t even worth mentionin’.

GFK was probably angry as fuck down in hell, when he watched as the spider’s thread be given ta me by chance.

Tsukasa: The reason you were the one to climb out of there is because you have done enough good to earn that chance.

GFK is a devil who tormented many people, Leo-san included, and even went as far as to throw his own child away like garbage.

You are nothing like him.

No. Even if you were soaked shoulder-deep in a sea of blood, I would still love the parts of you that were still visible.

And then I would pull you out of there and help you wash until your whole body was clean.

Kohaku: That’s yer job, yer duty, as the head of the family, after all.

Tsukasa: It’s because I am your family.

If you are in pain, then say it’s painful, and cry to your heart’s content, Oukawa. I won’t make fun of you for it.

This is an old-fashioned expression, but there are several times in life when a man is allowed to cry.

When he is born. When he dies. When he is separated from his family, and so on.

Even if your circumstances were unconventional, and even if it was only for a short period. You and J, no, the three of you, were definitely a real family.

It’s natural to cry, to regret and grieve that loss.

But, crying also takes up a lot of physical strength, so please eat properly. If you were to ruin your health I would worry.

Kohaku: Ahaha. After all that you landed on the same message, huh.

Tsukasa: Yes. It’s important, Oukawa.

Kohaku: Well, they say ya can’t be a hero on an empty stomach. Watchin’ Niki-han has made me realize just how important food is.

Well then. I might not be able ta get much down my throat yet, but I’ll gratefully give it a try ♪

Tsukasa: …

Kohaku: …? What’s wrong, bon?

Tsukasa: No, uhm, I just got a message on my Smartphone.

But, why? The sixth episode should have aired without issue- Ah, but then this isn’t being broadcasted live, is it? So this must be referring to something that happened after they finished filming this episode, then?

Kohaku: Once again, what are ya talkin’ about? Did somethin’ happen?

Tsukasa: I just received an urgent message from Saegusa-senpai, who is on the set of “[MaM]’s Chronicle of Parenting Struggles”.

-It seems J-san collapsed.

Kohaku: Huh!? J!? What is Madara-han doin’, he said he would protect him!

How did that happen? Did the evil guys hear that I dropped outta the show and think ta attack now that the defense is weaker…!?

Tsukasa: No, uhm, please wait a little. Please calm down, Oukawa, I am checking the text thoroughly.

Kohaku: And how come the text was sent ta yer phone when J was the one ta get hurt? Seems like ya got real friendly with Ibara-han when I wasn’t lookin’, huh?

Tsukasa: Though I am loath to accept that person's ideology, I still have a lot to learn from his Business sense… He also mentioned that he was unable to contact Oukawa, so he had no choice but to contact me in your place.

Kohaku: Ah, I was pissed about bein’ forced ta leave the program, so I blocked the numbers of everyone involved in the project.

There must be somethin’ in my genes, I’m doin’ the same as my eldest sister when she starts sulkin’ and ignorin’ me.

Tsukasa: A, anyways, I don’t know all the details, but I’ve been informed that J-san was taken to the closest hospital to the TV station after collapsing.

It is quite a distance from here… However, in order to gain an accurate understanding of the situation, let’s head straight there.

I will ask the driver to get the car ready for us.

Kohaku: Yeah! Let’s hurry, bon! Double Face already disbanded, so I no longer have the right ta say this, but-

Kohaku: Wh, what is it? Don’t cling to my back like that. What are ya, some weird yokai or bug?

Tsukasa: You’re both smart and kind, I’m sure you realize this yourself.

You’re not angry at Mikejima-senpai or your family. You’re angry at yourself for being unable to do anything.

Kohaku: …

Tsukasa: I’ve been through something similar myself. I didn’t realize I was angry with myself for being powerless, stupid, and unable to do anything, so I took my anger out on those around me.

The reason why you weren’t allowed to attend school is because your family feared that you would be targeted by us Suous due to you being the future head of the Oukawas.

Kohaku: …

Tsukasa: They feared that my grandfather, who wanted to erase the Oukawas, would find your existence as a future clan head to be an eyesore.

Your family hid you away to prevent him from learning of your existence.

Because they loved you, because they wanted to protect you.

Kohaku: …Of course, I know that much. I also realize that my family in the past, and Madara-han of the present, were actin’ based on the same emotions.

I know that, but I just can’t accept it.

…Bon. J is a lot like me.

Tsukasa: Yes.

Kohaku: That kid’s existence creates conflict an’ disaster even if he himself doesn’t want that.

A parent’s actions affect the kid. And that kid was forced ta carry a heavy burden ever since he was born.

I had it much better compared ta him. At least my family loved me. Those feelings came through.

Meanwhile. That kid’s father tried ta make it so he never existed, and on top o’ that he mercilessly abandoned his child.

Tsukasa: It’s the exact opposite of your family.

Kohaku: I feel sorry fer him.

Until I came out from my prison and got ta see the wider world, I thought I was the most pitiful person in the world.

And yet, I wasn’t even bad off. I didn’t have freedom, but I had love.

Meanwhile, J has lived all on his own, without bein’ loved by anyone.

He might not realize this himself, but fer a kid like that, Madara-han must’ve been exactly the kinda person he was waitin’ fer.

Even if it was just as part of that stupid project where idols played at bein’ staff at the Maizuru House, Madara-han was able ta see J, and reached out ta him.

Ta top it off, Madara-han eliminated the person who abandoned J, the person J probably hated more ‘n anythin’ else.

He must’ve looked like a hero in that kid’s eyes.

And once rogues aimin’ for his inheritance started movin’ around him, the first thing J did was reach out ta that hero of his.

My role in all that was simply ta play the hero’s sidekick. I could easily be replaced.

What J wanted was Madara-han, and I was just a bonus. I know that much.

I also know that the settin’ where I and Madara-han act as J’s parents ta raise him just serves as fuel fer the underworld’s “anxiety”.

But even then. It’s too heartless fer ‘im ta tell me not to get involved with ‘em anymore just ‘cause of that.

I get the reasonin’ behind his decision. I even agree with it. But painful things are still painful.

My heart’s hurtin’ an’ I feel tired, so I’m lettin’ myself sulk for a bit. That’s all there is. I’ll feel better in time, so I want ya ta leave me alone fer now.

Madara: Hahaha. Our guest this time was a gym instructor who kept insisting that as long as you have muscles, there is nothing you can’t do.

As soon as filming began, he provoked J, who has defeated every single guest we’ve had thus far.

He was saying something like “I’m different from those weaklings you’ve dealt with up until now! Come at me, you fucking brat!”.

Kohaku: And then before ya knew it, J had gotten annoyed and kicked the instructor on the back of his knee, where there’re no muscles fer him to train. He moved so quickly that even I barely managed ta see it.

J then got on top of the guest while he was still disoriented, and began pullin’ on his hair. Ya can’t work out yer hair roots either, after all. It was a really precise attack.

Tsukasa: Indeed. The match was decided at that point. After that, the guest was so frightened by J-san that he shrank like a soaked kitten outside in the rain.

Kohaku: It was the quickest defeat of any of our guests yet.

Tsukasa: As a viewer, it was the type of development that made me want to exclaim “I’ve been waiting for this!”.

At this point the public starts bustling the moment new guests are announced, saying things like “So this is the newest victim…”

They’ve also started coming with predictions and getting excited together about each episode. Someone were guessing that “Since the guest this time is really muscular, they’ll probably defeat him by mentally constraining him.”

Kohaku: I guess everyone’s done pretendin’ that this show is about parentin’ at this point. They sound more like guests goin’ ta see a pro wrestlin’ match.

Madara: Hahaha. Or maybe like tokusatsu fans who get excited to see new heroics each week.

Tsukasa: Well, they’re creating an immoral and bad-mannered atmosphere, but… Parenting is usually treated as a sacred topic, and it is taboo to treat it as a joke.

However. That’s probably exactly why people are getting so excited, as if they are finally allowed to properly play the Trumpets they’ve seen lined up at the store for so long.

Usually it would be breaking social rules to meddle in other people’s private affairs. But precisely because this is something you normally wouldn’t do, people are drawn to the drama that occurs when it happens.

By successfully stimulating such vulgar desires amongst the people, your program has become unexpectedly positively received.

Even the Producer, Saegusa-senpai, was surprised to see it, you know. “This was really unexpected.” he said.

Even Saegusa-senpai must have thought that humanity were fundamentally more virtuous than this. This just means that there are more vulgar people around than one would expect.

tsukasa+kohaku

Kohaku: Yer talkin’ as if this has got nothin’ ta do with ya, but if ya say yer enjoyin’ the program as well then yer also one of those vulgar people, bon.

But hey, that actually makes me feel more at ease. A society made up only of clean an’ righteous people sounds too insufferable fer me.

Madara: Of course, most people are clean and righteous, though. More people than expected ended up enjoying the immorality of our show, but as expected we have also faced a tremendous amount of criticism.

“You’re making fun of parents and adults.”, “This show is spreading misinformation about parenting.”, “I feel sorry for Double Face and J-kun for being forced into starring in this horrible show”, and so on.

Hahaha. They talk as if they can’t even imagine that there are some people who would feel even worse if they were forced to star in a “clean and righteous” show.

Tsukasa: But well, you do end up causing some accident each episode… While I do enjoy the show, it also causes me a lot of anxiety.

It has me sitting at the edge of my seat. It has already developed further than even Saegusa-senpai could have predicted, so who is to say what kind of unforeseen things will happen in the future.

Madara: From here on out, we should be even more meticulous, and carefully make our moves one step at a time.

Tsukasa: Of course, I am your ally. I will spare no effort in supporting you, so please feel free to ask me if you run into any problems.

Madara: Right. Well, we’ll gratefully be relying on you.

…Oopsie. We shouldn’t be standing out here and talking for too long. J is so hungry his stomach is growling.

Tsukasa: Aah, I’m sorry to be so inconsiderate!

As I mentioned earlier, dinner has already been prepared, so please come to the dining hall once you have finished washing your hands!

It seems as if many people are catching colds lately. Please make sure to eat enough to replenish the energy you’ve spent working hard. It would be terrible if any of you were to fall ill.

Kohaku: Yer right. So what’s fer dinner tonight?

Madara: Or rather. I might be late in asking, but are you sure it’s okay for me and J to eat here as well?

Tsukasa: Of course. Please think of this place as your own home, okay?

Madara: Sorry to freeload off of you.

Tsukasa: Don’t be, we should help each other out when we are in trouble.

Mikejima-senpai. It seems you are able to connect with and help out with the darker parts of Oukawa that I don’t understand.

However. The parts of him that you and Crazy:B alone cannot reach, I will do my best to take care of those.

I am this child’s family. I want you to take this as a declaration to you, his friend, from me, his family.

Madara: Hahaha. Seems like we’ve become friends all of a sudden, Kohaku-san?

Kohaku: We are comrades, for what it’s worth.

We might not be friends or family, but we do have some feelings between us. And those feelings are enough of a reason fer me ta take action along ya.

Madara: Buddies, huh… Hahaha. That might not be so bad, surprisingly enough.

Ya could’ve just ignored us, but ya have been super nice ta us all this time.

Tsukasa: It’s only natural. Even though we belong to different Units, Double Face is an ally belonging to the same agency as myself. Besides, it is my duty as the head of the Suou family to protect Oukawa.

Of course, this extends to J-san, who is something like Oukawa’s child.

Rather, if the two of you were to treat me as an outsider and refuse my involvement, that would only make me angry.

Kohaku: I hate that kinda behavior as well, so I would never do that to ya. But ya even went as far as ta remodel the Suou mansion that’s been in yer family fer generations all fer J’s sake.

Madara: We would have been fine staying in the hotel Ibara-san prepared for us as well, though.

Tsukasa: No can do. A Hotel is merely a temporary accommodation. It is not meant for longer periods of time.

It is hardly sufficient lodging for growing children. For J-san’s emotional development, staying in a place with a human soul will prove more beneficial.

Kohaku: Are ya sayin’ the Suou family mansion is that special?

Tsukasa: If it isn’t yet, then I will make it so. I’m serious about this.

Kohaku: I think it’s good. Fer me, even Starmony Dorm is too stylish ta get used to. Compared ta that, the Suou family mansion feels easier ta breathe in.

Madara: I’m inclined to agree. My family mansion feels too much like some yakuza headquarters, after all.

Well, I’m used to staying at hotels as well since I’ve been traveling abroad a lot. Still, staying at that luxury hotel made me feel as if Ibara-san was watching my every move, so I couldn’t really relax.

Tsukasa: I can imagine. I do hope you all can relax and enjoy yourselves while staying in my home.

I will protect your peace of mind.

Kohaku: Still, I’m surprised Ibara-han signed off on this. I would’ve expected him ta want ta keep J close-by fer the sake of the treasure chest which is GFK’s inheritance.

Tsukasa: My negotiations broke him down bit by bit.

It was a simple negotiation of exchanging goods for prices.

Those kinds of deals are easy to understand. I found Saegusa-senpai to be a much easier negotiation partner compared to Leo-san, who always acts purely based on intuition.

Madara: Ah~ Leo-san can be troublesome like that. I always feel as if I’m a foreign merchant trying to negotiate with someone who won’t take my currency.

Leo-san doesn’t really place any value in things like money, which are usually seen as important by businessmen like Ibara-san.

Poor Leo-san must’ve really had a hard time when he got tangled up with GFK, who only ever cared about money.

Tsukasa: Fufu. Come to think of it, the tale of Double Face all began because of that person, didn’t it?

After all this time, allow me to say this one more time: Thank you very much for saving that person.

As the one who inherited the crown from that person, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Madara: You don’t owe me any thanks, it’s fine. I just wanted to help out my friend, that’s all.

Ibara: Sounds like you have some parental ego going on yourself.

Sometimes, shining light on oneself leads to even the ugly bits becoming exposed.

Oukawa-shi is well aware of this. He is well acquainted with the underbelly of the idol industry - he knows that there exists talented people who can only live in those dark alleys, away from the light. That is how things are, “Young Master”.

Tsukasa: …

Ibara: Indeed. I may have gone too far. Haha, maybe I am just a little envious of Oukawa-shi.

Tsukasa: …?

Ibara: Anyways, the Double Face duo will appear as regulars on “[MaM]’s Chronicle of Parenting Struggles”, as will J-san, under the pretext of being their child.

Tsukasa: J-san is still only in first-grade of elementary, it’s so early for him to make his Debut

Ibara: That’s actually a rather impressive achievement, for what it’s worth.

It seems the Maizuru House was also attempting to raise young idols, so he should already have undergone mental preparation for this sort of situation.

I am sure J-san also imagined himself becoming “a person on the other side of the screen”.

In that sense, having the opportunity to co-star with such impressive seniors at this point in his career might have a great influence on J-san’s future as an idol.

Of course, that is merely an afterthought, and I do not know whether or not J-san intends to continue working towards becoming a true idol.

What is more important right now is that J-san needs to covet the public’s attention.

As I am sure Suou-shi is well aware of as well, the public is surprisingly well attuned to every move of famous people such as ourselves.

Just as how assassinations and assaults become harder with mass surveillance, attracting attention onto J-san will directly lead to an increase in his personal security.

Tsukasa: In other words, it will be more difficult for any villains targeting J-san for his inheritance to reach him.

Ibara: Yes. Additionally, this TV station has a very tight security system in place to protect celebrities.

Suspicious-looking rogues would not even be able to approach this place.

By establishing J-san as an idol possessing a regular spot at “[MaM]’s Chronicle of Parenting Struggles”, it becomes possible for him to stay in a safe location, like at Starmony Dorm.

Since we wouldn’t want to cause trouble for any of the other idols, however, I will set him up in a fortified luxury hotel I have specially prepared for him.

Tsukasa: Right. That would help a lot, it is probably safer compared to my house.

Ibara: Please leave it to me. J-san’s safety is of utmost importance to myself as well, if a VIP like him was to get hurt while under my protection, my security company would likely suffer damage to its reputation.

I swear on our pride that I shall ensure that his stay at the hotel is perfectly safe - not to mention comfortable.

Tsukasa: Shouldn’t you just have protected him like a VIP from the beginning then… What is the reasoning behind going out of your way to make him appear on this fishy program with Oukawa?

Ibara: -By portraying J-san as the son of Mikejima-shi and Oukawa-shi through the program, we can make that connection into an established fact.

tsukasa+ibara

Tsukasa: …

Ibara: If the people watching the show are left with the impression that J-san and Double Face share that kind of strong bond, then that is all for the best.

If we weave such a narrative, then it will seem perfectly natural when J-san later on entrusts his inheritance from GFK to his “trusted guardians”.

As for me, I shall be satisfied as long as I receive a small portion of that inheritance from Mikejima-shi and Oukawa-shi as compensation for my current efforts.

Tsukasa: So even you are ultimately after J-san’s inheritance, is that it?

Ibara: Is there any other reason that could motivate me to act so cordially?

If you are to denounce capitalism as a sin, then why don’t you donate all the money you earn working as an idol to some orphanage?

You see, Suou-shi, things like love and kindness are merely fashion items to be worn by people with enough money that they can afford to look cool.

Only someone who rips out their own heart to give it to a child suffering from organ failure is given the right to truthfully claim adhesion to such ideals.

Tsukasa: Going so far would be nothing short of madness, though.

Ibara: Mutual understanding is but a pipe dream - this world is simply a sports day filled with madmen.

No matter who takes first place in which competition, even that winner is simply another lunatic undeserving of praise.

We have strayed too far from God. However, ah, that is exactly what makes it so interesting. Is it not meaningful that we, too, participate in those mad competitions, Suou-shi?

We have been lucky enough to be born, so if we don’t enjoy this while it lasts, wouldn’t that be a waste?

Tsukasa: To be honest, I can’t keep up with your monologuing.

The most important thing isn’t Oukawa, but J-san’s safety. If you say this is necessary for that purpose, then Oukawa is probably convinced by that, even if I am not.

No. That’s probably exactly why Oukawa went along with this plan in the first place.

(As for Mikejima-senpai, I’m not as familiar with him, so I cannot tell what is going on inside his head… Judging by his behavior, it appears he is enjoying this weird show to its fullest.)

(Perhaps it is exactly as Saegusa-senpai surmised, and this entire situation is like a dream come true to Mikejima-senpai.)

Tsukasa: …With that choice of words it is hard to believe this is supposed to be a parenting program.

Ibara: That gap is this show’s main selling point!

The exhilaration and tension created by pulling off statements that would never be aired on regular programs is the best entertainment there is!

In fact, many of the current programs targeting housewives are filled with similar taboos!

People say not to curse in front of your children! They say that parents should never complain about parenting, they should uphold a saintly image!

This show - “[MaM]’s Chronicle of Parenting Struggles” aims to stick its hands into that built-up pile of parents’ good intentions and bring to light the truth of the matter!

It is a very meaningful program! Salute~!

Tsukasa: It’s almost definitely gonna get flamed online.

Ibara: I would hope so! That is exactly the aim of this project, after all!

From the very beginning, my plan was never to make a profit off of this program!

I will have plenty of recompensation once J-san has inherited GFK’s fortune ♪

Besides, though I worked out the details of this plan myself alongside Anzu-san, the ones responsible for creating this program are not CosPro, but rather the agency “Double Face” belongs to, NewDi.

Which means that this is a chance for me to try out things I normally would never dare to do, all without having to take any responsibility for it. There is no profit to be had, but also no loss. It’s the ultimate entertainment for killing time.

Tsukasa: Sigh, once again our agency is being casually pushed into poverty.

Since there is no other way to protect J-san, and because both Mikejima-senpai and Oukawa want to do this, I can neither deny nor reject this project, however.

We did make enough money off of SS that we can afford to keep this charade up, especially since our agency is rather small and yet famous.

Ibara: Indeed! For my part I am more than satisfied to be able to make an interesting program using someone else’s money!

Even though us at CosPro tend to end up in the role of the villain, even we can’t usually go around doing things like this.

Something like making a program to trivialize and make fun of parenting programs, that is.

Tsukasa: So you admit you are making fun of them.

Ibara: From the beginning, that person has used the stage name MaM for his idol activities.

He chooses to define himself as “MaM”, Mama. Double Face is supposed to be his other, darker, identity.

Tsukasa: I thought the name was a pun on “Mikeji - Ma Ma - dara”, wasn’t it?

Ibara: What if that is not the entire story? What if he truly wanted to be able to play the mother role?

Could this not be a dream come true for him, though in a way he would never have expected?

Yes, I have helped him achieve that dream of his.

If idols are the ones to show dreams to the public, then it is the producers who help those idols make their own dreams come true, after all.

Really, I have done such a good job! Surely you feel the same way, Anzu-san?

Tsukasa: Fufu. It seems like Anzu-onee-sama is starting to wonder if we may have gone a bit too far… she seems a little regretful after all this time.

Onee-sama has a lot of complicated feelings for Mikejima-senpai, after all. It seems you bent the rules a bit because of that.

Usually you would never have taken this big of a risk, onee-sama.

Ibara: However, it is too late to regret anything at this point. The dice has already been thrown.

This unbelievably vulgar parenting show - “[MaM]’s Chronicle of Parenting Struggles” - will start attracting attention, either better or for worse. Well, I am nearly 100% certain it will be for worse.

Madara: You leave it to me, you say. Honestly speaking, I would have felt more assured if I could have left J in your care, Ibara-san.

I have my own work as well. Though recently it’s been drying up a bit-

I am trying to make a comeback after my jobs during “SS” and at the Maizuru House, so it would be too inconvenient to be unable to work right now.

If I have to stay with J twenty-four seven, I can’t exactly go to work as usual.

I would have wanted a trustworthy person I could leave J to, if only for while I am performing on stage.

Kohaku-san, Tsukasa-san or Ibara-san would have been appropriate for that job, but as of right now it doesn’t seem like J has warmed up to anyone except me.

I couldn’t very well nonchalantly go to work knowing that you guys are struggling to deal with this wild child while I am away.

Kohaku: I ain’t weak enough that this tiny brat could injure me.

But I’ll admit it’s too much work fer me. And I’m not fond enough of Madara-han ta spend all of my free time watchin’ after some kid fer him.

Madara: Don’t say such harmful things, Kohaku-san! This is your child as well!

Kohaku: Not my kid. Though I’ll admit I’m too invested at this point ta just up an’ leave.

J is the child of GFK, whom we erased. My dignity won’t let me ignore this situation.

I want ta be able ta do somethin’ for ‘im, but-- hm?

Madara: What’s wrong, Kohaku-san? Did you come up with a good idea?

Kohaku: No, I felt as if someone was watchin’ me, and then I noticed Anzu-han was standin’ there. She’s as quiet as ever, her presence is faint enough that even I couldn’t notice her right away.

Madara: Anzu-san is here? Oh my, it’s true! What are you doing here?

Ibara: This “Information Room” is one of the workplaces for the P-association to which Anzu-san belongs, after all.

Besides, I have a favor I would like to ask of her, so I called her here.

Madara: You want to ask her a favor? Hahaan, I get it.

Anzu-san! You came at the perfect moment! I have something I want to tell you!

Please marry me, Anzu-san! This child needs a mother…!

-Owie!? Anzu-san kicked me in the shin!?

That’s a huge weak point for humans, and even grown men would start crying from pain when kicked there-

Kohaku: This was entirely yer own fault, Madara-han. Well, most things tend ta be yer fault though.

Tsukasa: Indeed. You shouldn’t say such things even if you mean it as a joke, it’s imprudent.

However, Anzu-onee-sama. No matter how rude someone is, violence is never the answer.

The moment you employ such methods, you lose your position as a pure victim.

If you wished to sue the person later on, that could become a disadvantage in court.

Madara: I was just trying to make a joke and now you are planning a lawsuit against me… Tsukasa-san, you look pretty calm but are you actually really angry?

Tsukasa: I’m not angry… However, Mikejima-senpai’s jokes tend to be hard to stomach.

Kohaku: Kohkohkoh ♪︎ Watchin' that made me feel refreshed, actually.

I get ya, Anzu-han. Mikejima Madara really is the type o’ guy that makes ya want ta kick him every now an’ then.

Madara: What do you mean by that. How rude… Even someone like me feels pain when they’re kicked, I get sad just like a normal person.

Ibara: Are you all done with that skit? Well then, Anzu-san - could you explain the thing I asked you about?

Madara: And what thing is that? If this has nothing to do with us, we’ll be taking our leave.

Ibara: That will not be necessary. You are hardly unrelated to this matter. In fact, I’d say you are something of the main characters.

Madara: …?

Ibara: I shall title this project “[MaM]’s Chronicle of Parenting Struggles”!

Tsukasa: Are you feeling okay?

Ibara: Whatever are you referring to? The project name might sound stupid, but this is actually a properly thought-out plan!

Madara: N~? I don’t really get it, but why don’t you explain in more detail? This smells kinda fishy all over, but at this point I’m not in a position to refuse help in any form.

A child’s life is at stake. I don’t know about Ibara-san, but Anzu-san would probably never get involved with something like this as a half-joke.

I can trust you on that.

…Honestly, I didn’t want to get Anzu-san involved in this kind of situation.

Ibara: Ahaha. Anzu is charging up for another kick. You’re wearing a skirt, so please keep it to a minimum.

More importantly, please explain the project details to everyone. I’m sure everyone will be thoroughly convinced.

ibara

Ibara: -I see. I understand completely.

This is beyond my powers.

The documentary program set in the Maizuru House showed that J-san was sorted into the “Kaiju Group”, consisting mostly of problem children.

I now understand perfectly how that came to be.

What is up with this shitty monster kid.

Kohaku: Aaaa! Don’t do that, J! If ya nibble on that, ya’ll get shocked!

Tsukasa: That’s right, J-san! Don't put that into your mouth, it's unsanitary! Please stick your tongue out for me, say “mlep”!

Kohaku: Shut yer mouth! The stuff yer sayin’ is weirdly incorrect and confusin’! This ain’t a sanitary problem, it’s that if he keeps nibblin’ on that power cord, he’ll be in danger, alright!?

Tsukasa: He is just like an untrained dog… J-san, I thought you were a good and quiet kid. This is a bit of a Shock for me.

Madara: Hahaha. He gave me a pretty hard time when I was at Maizuru House as well.

Ibara: I’d actually like to know just how Mikejima-shi was able to tame this viscous beast?

Madara: Ah, as expected, the program chose to omit those circumstances. Just watching the show would probably leave you with the impression that J is just a normal kid you could find anywhere.

But in reality, as is evident, he is a supermonster who indiscriminately destroys all that comes near him.

It seems like he respects me, or maybe is afraid of me, so whenever I’m closeby he becomes as quiet as a mech with its power cord plugged out.

Kohaku: Could ya stop watchin’ with that blank look on yer face and help us stop J!? J refuses ta listen to anything except what ya tell him!

Madara: Sounds like a drag. Just when I finally thought I had found someone I could entrust this troublesome child to.

tsukasa+kohaku

Tsukasa: Uhyaa, J-san is somehow taking his rampaging skills to new levels!?

Kohaku: Ah~ah~ah~, he’s just ‘bout old enough ta understand what other people are sayin’. I bet he overhead what Madara-han said, and is showin’ how much he hates that idea.

Seems that J doesn’t want ta be separated from Madara-han.

Madara: He’s such a spoiled kid, isn’t he? Here, here, it’s alright. I’m not going anywhere, at least not yet.

Kohaku: Can’t ya reassure him a lil’ and tell ‘im ya would never leave ‘im? Even if it’s a lie?

Madara: I will leave him at some point though. And since it seems like J trusts me, wouldn’t he just get sad if I ended up telling him lies?

Tsukasa: Ah… J, J-san just stopped moving all of a sudden. Thanks to Mikejima-senpai coming closer, he must have felt relieved.

Kohaku: Madara-han is like kryptonite for J. Or maybe he’s more like a grenade’s pin.

Madara: It’s accidental from my side though. When J is like this, I can’t exactly leave him at a police station or anything, and I have to stay by his side twenty-four seven, even while he’s in the bath or sleeping. It’s pretty hard, you know.

If I move away even a little, or even just seem as if I’m leaving him, he explodes just like how you saw.

He should be too old for this behavior, it’s almost like I’m taking care of a baby rather than a child.

Ibara: That might be an apt analogy. J-san is being targeted. If we take our eyes off him for even a second, there is no telling what kinds of danger he could be exposed to.

That does make him similar to a baby, in that taking your eyes off him for even the slightest moment can lead to his life being in danger.

Additionally, if you leave him unattended, he immediately starts bawling and attracting attention from his surroundings. To keep such a child safe must be a rather proving task.

I have neither the patience nor the time to complete such a bothersome mission. I also lack any obligation to.

The fortune J-san is set to inherit from GFK is mesmerizing in and of itself, to be sure. However, if it is merely money then I will sooner or later be able to earn that much on my own without having to go through this amount of trouble for it.

Which is why I am retracting my offer to become J-san’s guardian. Please continue taking care of this child as you have up until now, Mikejima-shi.

Madara: …How weirdly considerate of you. I thought you would keep arguing with me for a bit longer.

Well then, is everything thus far proceeding according to your hypothesis?

Ibara: I wonder. I was planning on actually securing J-san into my own hands if he had been a quiet kid who didn’t need too much attention.

This child is an incomparable treasure, but he is also simultaneously a ticking bomb whom many villains will be coming for. To care for this child is to take on a huge amount of risk.

I have other important jobs to attend to, and cannot afford to become occupied with such a dangerous task.

You have much more time on your hands, so I will leave it to you, Mikejima-shi.

Anyway. That’s the story of how I randomly searched any places Mikejima-shi seemed likely to go to, and after several failed attempts, I arrived here.

Why, I truly am delighted to finally have hit the jackpot!

Madara: For what?

Ibara: Excuse me?

Madara: For what reason were you looking for me? Depending on your answer, I might have to cancel the welcoming party.

Ibara: Of course, it was to take J-san in. From now on, I will take over custody for that child.

Madara: All of that to secure J, brainwash him, steal his inheritance and increase your own fortune?

Ibara: Would I be wrong to? Brainwashing sounds a bit too harsh, but what we are attempting to do is awfully similar, so I won’t correct your use of the word.

However, which part of that is it wrong of me to do?

The fortune this child is in line to inherit is a concept larger than he is capable of comprehending. It is sheer “power”. As long as this child is in possession of such a thing, it will inevitably lead him to ruin.

I am merely trying to remove, nay save, this child from the awful fate that has been imposed on him. Is there a problem with that?

Madara: There is a point to what you’re saying. I’ll admit that this child’s wellbeing should be prioritized above all else.

But. When I imagine the damage that could be done if this kid’s fate was to fall into the wrong hands, I cannot allow for any villains to steal it from him.

Ibara: Among those “villains” who are going after this child, I feel like I am of the more conscientious sort, though?

Let us consider this rationally, Mikejima-shi. It is for the best for this child as well to be placed under my, under Ibara Saegusa’s protection.

Madara: …Please give me some time to consider.

It’s not like I want to look after some kid for the rest of my life, and I’m obviously also not interested in GFK’s inheritance. I can earn any money I need myself.

It looks as if this kid is relying on me right now, but there are no obligations for us to stay together.

Tsukasa: Ahem. H, how indeed did Mikejima-senpai come across J-san?

What, did ya get curious and launch a secret investigation into GFK or somethin’? And then ya found out about J’s existence and took ‘im in before anyone could target him?

Madara: H~m. It’s not really anything that cool.

The orphanage that J ended up in is called the “Maizuru House”.

Tsukasa: I feel like I have heard that somewhere… Ah, is that the orphanage where Narukami-senpai worked at around the beginning of the year?

I remember because she kept nagging me because I didn’t want to participate asI do not enjoy childcare.

She kept saying stuff like “It was so fun and such a good experience~” and “You really missed out by not participating, you know~”

Madara: Right. I also worked there temporarily. Of course, during that time I had no idea about J’s background, so I didn’t treat him any different from the others.

While working as a nursery teacher at the Maizuru House I was in charge of the group of kids called the “Kaiju Group”.

One of those kids never warmed up to me until the end, and kept having a really thorny attitude with me.

That child ended up being J.

I kept wondering why that child hated me so much. I thought maybe I had scared him a little too much, or maybe I had done something rude to him. After we finished working there, I did some self-reflection about my actions.

Kohaku: Why were ya out there scarin’ the kids anyways?

Madara: I was simply doing what I do best. Anyhow, at our little farewell party, J opened his mouth and spoke to me for the first time.

-”Mikejima-sensei.”

-”Sensei, were you the one who beat up papa?”

Tsukasa: That’s… For those to be the first words he spoke to you, even Mikejima-senpai must have been surprised to hear that?

Madara: Yes. Or more like, at first I honestly had no idea what he was even talking about. I thought he was quoting lines from some manga or movie.

But. Then I tried collecting my thoughts and took a closer look at J’s face, and felt his features looked somehow familiar.

That got me curious, so I even borrowed help from my parents, and that’s how I discovered that J was, in fact, GFK’s son.

Kohaku: I see… What a strange turn of events.

But wait a sec. How'd J even know that we were the ones who got rid of GFK?

As far as the public’s concerned, our “job” back then was part of the performance on stage, and the story’s supposed ta be that GFK went missing followin’ an accident on-set.

Madara: Yes. He ended up being squeezed by overly excited audience members. And thus the poor, old GFK had to retire.

It’s such a shame when elderly people are met with accidents like that. It makes my heart hurt.

Kohaku: Yer smilin’ from ear ta ear.

So, did J see footage of the incident or hear ‘bout it on the news? Did he instinctively realize that we were ta ones that defeated GFK?

Or, seein’ how the incident turned out, did he want ta thank ya regardless of whether it was on purpose or not?

Madara: I think it’s something like that. I'm not sure, but someone might have tipped him off about it. There was a “ghost” at Maizuru House who seemed to know even secret information about the industry, after all.

That busybody “ghost” might’ve lectured J and told him that “Mikejima-sensei is your benefactor, so make sure you listen to him.”

The “Kaiju Group” was supposed to be rather tough to handle, but that someone’s support might have been what made the children listen to me.

As you can tell, J rarely speaks at all, and even when asked questions he refuses to answer. So, the truth of the matter remains unknown.

And that’s what led to me and J forming an unlikely connection at the Maizuru House.

Kohaku: So that connection’s what led J to ask Madara-han fer help this time around?

Madara: Yup. It seems that J has been feeling more and more as if he is in danger as of late. He even came close to being kidnapped while playing in the orphanage garden.

Kohaku: Ya mean villains targettin’ GFK’s fortune were tryin’ ta kidnap him?

Madara: We can’t know for sure. But he is a child I once took care of as if he was my own. I can’t just abandon him.

Kohaku: "As if he was your own" sounds like an exaggeration fer sure. But the reason for J being in danger lies with us, as we are responsible for erasing his father.

J has committed no crimes, it’s our duty ta protect him so he doesn’t end up in danger ‘cause of us.

Madara: Yes. By the way, to explain how I came across this information in more detail, the first thing that happened was that Maizuru House called the police after the kidnapping attempt. My father, the head of the police, then contacted me with the information.

He scolded me, saying that this problem started with me, so I better roll up my sleeves and fix it as well.

He also mentioned that if I didn’t fix things, my parents would “handle” everything on their end. If things ended up like that, then even I wouldn’t be able to sleep well afterwards.

That left me with no choice but to take in J, after which I hurried to a safe hiding place-

In other words, that’s when I came here to seek refuge. Well, I’m still on the fence as to whether or not this place is actually safe, though.

I can’t really think of anywhere else to go…

I can’t rely on my parents. And I can’t go back to Maizuru House either, or else the other kids at the orphanage could end up in danger from those who are coming for J.

Kohaku: The other kids have nothin’ ta do with this, after all. All the children, including J, are just innocent bystanders who got roped into our business.

Madara: Indeed. We aren’t the good guys in this situation. If anything, we’re just bad guys fighting even worse guys right now.

Even villains need to draw a line they would never cross. If not, then your entire soul would become drenched by evil.

Like how Batman refuses to ever commit murder.

No matter what other illegal acts he commits, he makes sure to always stick to that restriction he placed onto himself. No matter how cornered he gets, he will protect that rule to his death.

Others might not understand his train of thought, and they might criticize him, but that silly and yet important line is what protects him from going insane.

It protects him from the insanity called justice, and enables him to stay as a world-renowned hero worthy of respect.

As the existence I have looked up to ever since I was a kid - a hero.

Kohaku: So what yer sayin’ is that not gettin’ innocent children involved in this mess is the line ya drew for yerself?

Madara: Well, if it really came down to it, I would probably step over that line though? It would be stupid if I ended up dead or injured while trying to look cool, after all.

Kohaku: I don’t even know where ta begin respondin’ ta that.

Madara: …But hey, I decided to try and look cool for as long as I can.

Since this kid saw me as his teacher, and asked for my help, I have a duty to protect him.

He lived his life in a paradise of his own creation, surrounded by such things he had invested in.

For better or for worse, it seems J did not manage to catch GFK’s eye in such a way.

Kohaku: GFK, huh… Ta think that we’d hear that name after all this time…

Madara: Right. The creator God of the idol industry, who reigned over the industry for many years was the man known as Godfather.

His successor, whom we nicknamed GFK, was erased by us as Double Face.

GFK’s enormous estate was largely devoured by ES - or rather, by Ibara-san and other powerful factions.

Kohaku: And because we eliminated those pests who were causing the industry to rot away, ES was able to make a breakthrough this year.

Well, ‘s not like we can boast about any of our hard work.

After all, we’re just doin’ ta sort of dirty, behind-the-scenes work that shouldn’t ever be brought into the light.

Madara: Exactly. I only intervened because GFK was causing trouble for my friend Leo-san, after all. And then since the enemy was such a big-shot, I ended up getting involved in something huge.

Kohaku: Ya ran outta luck when what was only supposed to be one night of secret business turned into an advertisement for Double Face as a unit.

Well, that was also a necessary condition for us ta fulfill the work given ta us.

And since we couldn’t exactly disband the unit once it took off like that, we’ve been draggin’ that connection of ours along until now.

Madara: Well, it’s never possible to tell which way luck will turn, but in hindsight, I’m happy with the way things turned out.

If I had let go of the “weapon” known as “Double Face”, I might not have had the necessary means to protect this child, J.

Kohaku: What, are ya sayin’ this is gonna turn into another dangerous situation?

The type of situation where I’ll hafta don my “Double Face” mask, and not my “Crazy:B” one?

Madara: Yes. This is a job suited only for our already dirtied hands.

Tsukasa: …I’d like it if you wouldn’t get our Oukawa involved in too many dangerous things.

Kohaku: That decision isn’t yours to make, bon.

It’s my life. I won’t let anyone interfere. Not the head of the great main family, not my older sisters, and of course not Double Face or Crazy:B.

I finally gained my own freedom. I won’t let anyone interfere with it.

Madara: N~. If that’s so, then maybe it really would be best if you didn’t have to get involved with any more dirty work.

Madara: That alone is help enough. Your family loves you, which is enough reason for me to trust them as well.

That’s a big difference between our families. If I asked my parents, they could easily arrange a safehouse for J, but after that I doubt they would ever give J back to us.

Kohaku: Just how little trust do ya have fer your parents?

Madara: Yeah, I saw there were many pine trees in your garden*. However, Sengoku era common sense isn’t applicable to modern warfare, where you may be attacked with assault rifles or explosives.

Kohaku: Are ya expectin’ to be attacked with those things?

Madara: It’s too soon to tell. But well, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared.

Some humans will do pretty much anything for the sake of money, to such an extent that even I would be appalled.

Kohaku: So this is about money? I see, havin’ GFK’s orphaned child means-

Madara: Yes. J is the sole and rightful heir to the still enormous inheritance left by GFK.

Up until now, ES and the like only managed to steal away a small fragment of GFK’s fortune, as much as they could whilst staying within the limits of the law.

Which means that the majority is still up for grabs.

This is like an untouched oil field, or like the hidden Tokugawa treasure**.

Kohaku: Meanin’ this conflict is about people tryin’ ta secure J in aims of stealin’ his father’s fortune?

Madara: Yes. If you capture this child and brainwash him into saying things like “I love my new dad ♪”, then you can oficially transfer his inheritance to yourself once he’s grown up.

And just like that you can gain the vast fortune GFK himself inherited from Godfather, who used to stand on top of the world.

This fortune is of such value that by borrowing even a small amount of it, ES was able to go from being a small, recently established company to standing at the top of society.

No. This inheritance is simply pure, overwhelming “power”.

And right now a bloody conflict is spreading all across the world to get ahold of it.

A war void of justice, where honor and duty hold no worth.
